Rok was born in Celje, on May 25th, 1986. There he visited the elementary school and later the secondary school, I. gimnazija Celje. Today he is a student at the Faculty of Management in Koper.

Theee turning point in Rok’s life was the year 1991, when he first stepped on the snowboard and his way as one of the most successful Slovenian snowboarders began. Rok spent his childhood in Celje, among his friends and sport activities, particularly ball games. During the winter he had been skiing, but soon he also started snowboarding. In later years he tried himself in handball and basketball, like most boys in Celje did. Nevertheless, during this period snowboarding still attracted him enormously. The first serious training began at the age of fourteen and Rok found himself in this sport and also everything he had missed in team sports – individuality. »Nobody can make points instead of you… you alone are responsible for your success and also failure«, is the reason why Rok is enchanted by snowboarding.

Snowboarding enraptured and addicted him. It is a pure satisfaction.

That the decision was right was proved in the year 2002, when he won his first Junior Race in Czech Klinovec. Today, Rok is spending over 150 days on snow and competes in Parallel GS and Parallel Slalom. After the year 2002 Rok had a lot of same competitors at Junior Races as he has today: Karl, Veith, Bussler, Figel, Pletzer, Morrison, Lambert and Slovene fellows Košir and Demšar. Despite his youth, Rok started to compete at Europa Cup races. Therefore the preparations and training for races had to be more professional and Dragan Bosnic, a specialist in physical condition, was invited into the team. Zdravko Strniša cares for Rok’s self-confidence, which allows top-level positions for a sportsman. Last but not least, there is Tomaž Zamernik, a professional masseur, who helps Rok to endure the hard training during the whole season.

In the year 2005 Rok made a breakthrough into the Slovenian Senior National Team. He almost made it to the top under the guidance of Tomaž Bernik, a professional coach, who stayed with him for two more seasons. This year Rok first took part at a National Championship in the Austrian Kreischberg. In his short career Rok already achieved many topmost positions. Among juniors, in the year 2005, he won his first medal (silver) in FIS Race, as well as in senior category, where he regularly started to participate in the season 2006/07. In his first season in senior category he won the Universiade in Torino and was third at the World Cup in Furano. In the season 2007/08, he was third again at the World Cup, in Bad Gestain. At the end, his cup standing was behind his points from the previous season, when he reached the 11th place. The reasons were the injury of the periosteum, which lasted for the whole season and problems with equipment at the beginning and the end of the season.

Relinquishing and a sport life are familiar to Rok. He is always willing to train and he knows that without a hard training and work, there is no successful season. Rok is not pressed for time, because snowboarders reach their summit of success in Alpine Snowboarding somewhere between the age of 27 and 30. Hence, we are joyfully expecting the racing seasons to come.

Rok se je rodil 25. maja 1986 v Celju, kjer je obiskoval osnovno šolo. Šolanje je nadaljeval na I. gimnaziji Celje, sedaj pa je študent Fakultete za management Koper.

Leto 1991 je bilo za Rokovo prihodnost prelomno, takrat je prvic stopil na snežno desko in zacela se je športna pot enega najuspešnejših slovenskih deskarjev na snegu. Otroštvo je kot vecina Celjanov, preizkusil v rokometu in košarki. Deskanje pa je bilo ves ta cas nekaj, kar ga je neznansko privlacilo. Prvi resni treningi pri štirinajstih letih so ga navdušili in v deskanju je našel vse, kar je pogrešal pri kolektivnih športih – individualnost. »Nihce ne more namesto tebe zadeti gola, dati koša … za vse si sam in samemu sebi odgovarjaš, tako za uspehe, kakor neuspehe,« je to, kar ga navdušuje pri deskanju.

Deskanje ga je navdušilo, zasvojilo in mu je v popolno zadovoljstvo.

Prve tekme in odmevni rezultati, ki jih je dosegel leta 2002, ko je zmagal na svoji prvi mladinski tekmi v ceškem Klinovcu, so bile potrditev, da je bila odlocitev pravilna. Danes preživi na snegu vec kakor 150 dni v sezoni, tekmuje v paralelnem veleslalomu in paralelnem slalomu.

Na mladinskih tekmah je v naslednjih sezonah imel veliko dvobojev tudi s sedanjimi tekmeci med clani: Karl, Veith, Bussler, Figel, Pletzer, Morrison, Lambert, in od slovenskih tekmovalcev Žan Košir in Jernej Demšar, so tekmovalci, ki ga spremljajo od vsega zacetka. Zelo kmalu je zacel kljub svoji mladosti nastopati na tekmah evropskega pokala. Zaradi spoznanja, da je potrebno celotno zadevo dvigniti na višji nivo, so v ekipo, ki je skrbela za Rokov razvoj, povabili Dragana Bosnica, kot strokovnjaka na podrocju fizicne pripravljenosti. Zdravko Strniša skrbi, da je Rokova samozavest, ki športniku omogoca vrhunske uvrstitve, na nivoju. Brez Tomaža Zamernika, športnega maserja, bi Rok zelo težko zdržal naporne Draganove treninge skozi celotno sezono.

Leta 2005 se je Rok prvic uvrstil v clansko reprezentanco Slovenije. Takrat se je pod vodstvom vrhunskega trenerja Tomaža Bernika, ki ga je spremljal naslednji dve sezoni, povsem približal svetovnemu vrhu. To je bila sezona, ko je prvic nastopil na tekmi za svetovni pokal v avstrijskem Kreischbergu.

Rok je na svoji kratki športni poti dosegel že veliko vrhunskih uvrstitev. Med mladinci, ko je leta 2005 na mladinskem svetovnem prvenstvu osvojil prvo medaljo – srebrno, pod okriljem FIS za Slovenijo, kakor tudi med clani, kjer je zacel redno nastopati v sezoni 2006/07. V svoji prvi clanski sezoni je zmagal na Univerziadi Torino 2007 in se uvrstil tudi na zmagovalne stopnicke – tretje mesto na tekmi za svetovni pokal, Furano 2007. V sezoni 2007/08 je izenacil svojo najboljšo uvrstitev na tekmah za svetovni pokal in dosegel 3. mesto na nocnem paralelnem slalomu v Bad Gestainu. V skupnem seštevku svetovnega pokala je nekoliko zaostal za rezultatom prejšnje sezone, ko je dosegel skupno 11. mesto, razlog pa je vsekakor poškodba pokostnice, ki se je vlekla skozi celotno sezono in na zacetku, kakor tudi proti koncu sezone, težava z opremo.

Odrekanje in športni nacin življenja mu nista tuja. Trenirati mu nikoli ni težko in ve, da brez napornih treningov in trdega dela ne more biti uspešne sezone. Cas je njegov zaveznik, saj deskarji v alpin disciplinah dosežejo vrhunec nekje med 27. in 30. letom. Zato z veseljem pricakujemo naslednje tekmovalne sezone.

Rok ist am 25. Mai 1986 in Celje geboren. Dort hat er die Volkssschule und Gimnasium absolviert. Momentan studiert er Management in Koper.

Im Jahr 1991 hat Rok erstesmal aufs Snowboard aufgestiegen und das war entscheident fuer seine weitere Sportaktivitaet. So begann Kariere eines von besten slowenischen Snowboardfahres. Rok treibt Sport schon vor der Kindheit. Im Winter hat er viel Schie gefahren, ausser Winter hat sich auch in Ballspielen (Handball, Korbball …) versucht. Ueberal mit dem Erfolg, jedoch Snowboarding war fuer ihn immer zugkraeftig und hat ihm eine reizende Herausforderung bedeutet. Schon die ersten Traininge, bei seinen 14 Jahren, haben ihn voll begeistert. Bei diesem Sport hat er gefunden das, was ihm andere Sporte nicht geben konnten – Individualitaet. »Hier bist du allein, alles musst du selber tun. Fuer alle Erfolge und Niederlagen bist du selber verantwortlich und schuld«.

Sein erster Sieg bei Junioren in Klimovec (Tschechische Republik) in 2002 hat seine Entscheidung nur bestaetigt. Er trainiert sehr viel, auf dem Schnee ist er mehr als 150 Tage jaehrlich und in der Saison ist bei allen wichtigen ALPIN Rennen (Parallelslalom und Grossslalom) dabei. Mit seinen damaligen Junior Konkurenten trefft er sich jetzt auch bei Senioren (Karl, Veith, Bussler, Figel, Pletzer, Morisson, Lambert, Žan Košir, Demšar uzw.). Trotzdem, dass er sehr jung war, ist er bald beim Europacup gestartet. Wenn es festgestellt worden ist, seine komplete Entwicklung auf hoeheres Niveu zu bringen, sind zur Mitwirkung einige Fachmaenner eingeladen worden. Bosnic Dragan sorgt um seine Kondition, Zdravko Strniša um seine Psyche und sein Selbsgefuehl und Masseur Zamrenik Tomaž saniert seine Verletzungen und bringt sein Koerper nach staendingen Anstrengungen immer wieder zum optimalen Sportstand.

Im Jahr 2005 hat sich Rok in die Staadsmannschaft Sloweniens qualifiziert. Unter der Fuehrung des Spitzentrainers Bernik Tomaž ist er den beruehmten und den besten Weltklassen nahegekommen. Sein 1. Rennen im Weltcup war in oesterreichischen Kreischberg.

In seiner kurzen Sportkariere hat Rok schon viele Spitzenresultate erzielt, so bein Junioren, wo er 2005 eigene erste silbere Medaile FIS geschaft, wie auch bei Senioren, wo er in der Saison 2006/2007 gestartet ist. In dieser Saison hat auf der Universiade Torino 2007 gewonnen und hat sich auf den 3. Platz des Weltcups in Furano 2007 plaziert. In naechster Saison hat Rok seinen besten Resultat im Weltcup wiederholt – er war der 3. im Parallelslalom in Bad Gastein.

Sportliche Lebensart und Verweigerungen sind ihm nicht fremd. Er weiss, ohne harte Arbeit, anstrengenden Traininge gibt keine erfolgreiche Saison. Zeit ist sein Verbuendete – es ist bekannt, die besten Resultate erzielen die Boardsfahrer in Alpin Disciplinen zwieschen 27 und 30 Jahren. Jeder Start in neue Saison macht uns deswegen grosse Freude.
